In today’s world of
brutal competition, it’s getting to be very difficult for an author to
get the attention of the readers. It’s not like the good old days where the
writer produced his best work, then handed off the rest of the
responsibilities to the publisher who put it front of the buyers. Now, an
independent author has to write the darn book, and then wave their arms around
like a lunatic yelling… Hey! Over here – read mine.

Thank goodness for
social media like Pixels of Ink or the many Kindle and Nook newsletters. It’s a platform
where we can reach out to millions of people and hope to gain their attention—to let the readers know that we’ve written a book and catch their interest in
hopes they might like our story. To do this, many authors have been forced to put
lower prices on their work, and in some instances list the books for free.

This doesn’t mean that
the quality is reflected in the (lack of) price. Not at all! There are a lot of
wonderful novels, written by very hard-working individuals who tell a fantastic
story. But it does mean that you
will be getting an amazing deal, starting Wednesday, and you should
be smiling all the while your fingers are clicking on all those download buttons.
