I thought I’d share something with you that has recently
caught my attention – Amazon’s Kindle Singles!
caught my attention – Amazon’s Kindle Singles!
Years ago I wrote a very short story (approx. 3,000 words)
called Hotshot and I set in up on some website –that to tell you the
truth – I don’t even remember anymore. Of course, back in those days, my
writing wasn’t as well-crafted as I believe
it is today. And… that was proven by the number of corrections I had to make in
the revisions of this story. In fact, while making my edits, I doubled the
number of words to over 7,000 and changed the title to Hotshot Cowboy. I did
this because of this KDP rule – “Not
published on any public website in its entirety”- So; I knew I had to make those changes.

Funny thing, as I rewrote this very short story and
added those words, I brought in other characters through a family link with the
hero. These introductions will give me the opportunity to write another 3 shorts
that can link to this one. Didn’t mean to do this when I began reworking it…
but, as all writers know, these threads sometimes magically appear and it’s a
treat when things work out that way. In the next year, I visualize a bunch of these stories, all branded in a similar way, all out there providing me with extra income and attracting new fans.

Personally, I believe it’s incredibly important for
all authors to be as visible in as many places as possible. My hope is for a
reader to enjoy this story so much that he/she will go searching for whatever
else I’ve written. And, I’ll be only too
happy to provide them with a long list of all my books quite appropriately
added into the back matter.

Submissions Policy
Anyone can submit original work to Kindle Singles. We’ve showcased writing from both new
and established voices–from bestselling novelists to previously unpublished
writers.
We’re looking for compelling ideas expressed at their natural length–writing
that doesn’t easily fall into the conventional space limitations of magazines
or print books. Kindle Singles are typically between 5,000 and 30,000 words.
A Kindle Single can be on any topic. So far we’ve posted fiction, essays,
memoirs, reporting, personal narratives, and profiles, and we’re expanding our
selection every week. We’re looking for high-quality writing, fresh and
original ideas, and well-executed stories in all genres and subjects.
